Is that why you want to give me a second chance? To...see what I do, when pursuing that revenge isn't an option?

[Yusuke shakes his head, looking back at Akechi.]

The Phantom Thieves have a role to protect all those who were wronged by terrible adults, when no one else will take a stand for them. Wishing for you to be safe and well for its own sake... that's truly all there is to it.

[Whatever Akechi does with that second chance is up to him.]

I still don't get your mindset, after all the cause I've given you to resent me. But, I can at least understand wanting to mitigate or undo some of the damage caused by people like Shido and his accomplices.

You don't have to understand it fully. We Phantom Thieves make decisions based on our own justice, not because we expect the understanding of others.

[Though maybe in this case, Akechi will understand eventually, if he opts to spend more time with any of them.]

...It's strange, isn't it? How we can be so alike, and yet so different. I wonder if that's because you Thieves had each other, or because I spent so long under the control of truly despicable adults.

Perhaps so. It's no exaggeration to say that they saved my life -- I do not wish to think what would have become of me if they had not intervened. Had they met you earlier, too, things might have been different.

Heh...

[He gives a weak smile.]

I actually told Amamiya-kun once that I wished we'd met sooner for that very reason. If I hadn't felt as though there was nobody in the world I could trust...well, there's no point in thinking about 'what if's now. I can't change the past, after all...the most I can do is try to change my fate.

Yes. How you choose to do that is down to you, but there will be people willing to support you, should you choose to accept them.

Now, should we return to the matter at hand...?

[Akechi's eyes show no signs of change back to normal yet, as far as he can tell, and it's starting to become more worrying.]

Right...we need to find someone who might know something about these fruits. Maybe we should go down to the commercial level, we might have some luck at a garden store.

Or perhaps we could find a food store? I must admit, I'm beginning to hunger.

[A pause, and belatedly, he adds:] Ah! And we can ask if any are familiar with the fruit you ingested.

How are your...ah...finances? I haven't found a job yet, so I don't have any Demichroma to my name.

[And he's pretty sure it goes without saying that his Chroma trend has been a downward slope.]

Oh... Rather lacking, to be honest.

[He did get the stipend on arrival, but he's spent most of it already, in typical Yusuke fashion.]

So, neither of us is in particularly good shape to be going shopping.

[Even though he's...still pretty hungry, himself.]

Unless we attempt the obvious solution, that is.

[Yusuke hasn't tried it yet properly, so it still feels a little bizarre to suggest, even if it's normal by now for everyone else here.]

I suppose it's...likely to be less awkward than dealing with growling stomachs while trying to find an explanation.

Any type of physical contact will do, correct? The more intimate will generate the most currency. What are you comfortable with?

Well...to be honest, I'm generally more worried about other people's personal space than my own. Nothing...generally reserved for couples, of course, but it's mostly up to you, beyond that.

[Yusuke absolutely wouldn't consider anything for couples with Akechi, of all people, but then, he can't imagine him being intimate with him at all.

On the other hand, food. And he does still want to help Akechi.

Looking a little aggravated, he quickly takes Akechi's hand.]

[He can tell Yusuke's not pleased with the idea, and it has his own hand tense as Yusuke grabs it. But it's still...relieving, as he feels the Chroma flow from the point of contact and lift some of his fatigue. It doesn't do anything for what's caused by the lack of sleep, but...it's possible he maybe went a bit too long without touching anyone.]

From what I've gathered, Chroma is worth twice as much as Demichroma, so...it shouldn't take much to at least be able to buy a snack.

[Somehow the simple touch feels a lot nicer than it has any right to, even despite the tension, and Yusuke can feel his own chroma replenishing. So this was what people meant?

He goes from annoyed to a little flustered, grabbing Akechi's other hand in order to hold both.]

Y-you'll-- need more than that, surely.

W-well, I was...starting to run low to begin with...

[And it does feel nice. He already knew from shaking hands with Ren earlier that even a simple touch can feel remarkable when Chroma is involved, but it still makes his cheeks turn pink.]

You're sure you're alright with it?

Yes.

[He says it firmly, despite clearly being embarrassed. He does want to stand by the offer of a second chance, and that includes helping him.

And it does, irritatingly, feel very nice.]

It's still difficult to believe physical contact could be a source of money... I hope there are not those who would take advantage of it.

[The assurance has the tension easing out of his grip. His hands are an odd mixture of rough and soft, calloused fingers softened with lotion but still clearly those of someone who works with his hands.]

I'm...worried about that, myself. I've seen people leverage financial security to keep vulnerable partners trapped in toxic relationships before...but the way this works, it does seem like it would be easier to get out. Any other Moonblessed could help, even if they wouldn't be able to do anything in an economy more like the one we're familiar with.

[Yusuke's hands are slender and elegant, with the finesse of someone who can handle a delicate brush as well as a blade. He's interested in how he's able to get a good, honest look at Akechi when they're close like this -- artist's instinct, perhaps.]

That's true. The fact that moonlacing is an equal exchange makes it difficult for one party to hold power over the other.

[His Detective Prince mask is down, there's no point to it when he's talking to someone who already knows how fake it is. His concern looks genuine...though he's sure Yusuke already knows why such a topic might be one he feels strongly about.]

And even if one side was worried about long-term finances, they could at least use their savings to avoid being in such a desperate situation again while looking for a new partner. The fact that platonic contact like this is enough to generate some Chroma means that it wouldn't even need to be a romantic relationship...just someone else they'd trust to be touching them.
