[He pauses, idly brushing a bit of hair behind his ear.]

Maybe if it's possible to alter the future. I haven't had time to talk to her since she showed me Amamiya-kun's phone. And based on what he's told me, I won't get another chance unless I can make different choices from the ones you people remember me making.

Ah... So he told you. [Yusuke's expression falls. He had intended to keep quiet about it, but Ren knows Akechi best, so he'll trust his judgement on the matter.]

He's telling the truth. You'll meet the same fate, if you insist on repeating the same actions you had been so intent on seeing through.

He didn't seem like he was lying. And if Shido already knows about my relation to him, then my plan is ruined regardless of whether or not he suffers a change of heart. It won't be as satisfying as personally forcing him to experience what it's like to grovel in fear of someone with the power to ruin or end your life on a whim, but...as long as I can put an end to his crimes and make him suffer for what he's done, I can be satisfied.

We offered for you to rejoin us so that we could put a stop to him as a team, you know. I wish you had taken us up on that offer.

...Why? I'd already betrayed you once, and Amamiya-kun admitted he didn't know if I had considered our friendship real.

We had a common goal, and you had nothing to lose by joining us. Besides, you would hardly betray us again, when Shido wanted rid of you.

What about...what I'd already done? You had every reason to want me gone, yourselves.

We all understood what it was like to be used as a tool by terrible adults. As I said before -- we might not be able to forgive your actions, but we can still put ourselves in your position. If we hadn't found one another as Phantom Thieves-- had we been in your circumstances-- who knows what we would have done, in moments of desperation.

And understanding eases your anger? Even if I understood why Shido thinks the way he does, it wouldn't do anything to reduce my hatred toward him.

[Yusuke stops walking and sighs, hands balled into fists. No, of course he's angry. But...]

Knowing how you were used... Listening to Shido gloated about using you for his own ends, then tossing you aside...

What I thought about in those moments was that you were as much a victim as a perpetrator. If Shido hadn't set you up to become as you were, you might have used your powers differently.

[He stops walking when Yusuke does, looking away so he doesn't have to see that angry red aura out of the corner of his eye.]

...I offered to use my power for his ends. When I met him, he was struggling amid scandals...I offered to use my abilities to discredit his detractors.

Be that as it may... I'm not suggesting that in calling you a victim, you had no hand in your own actions. But that responsibility is rather diminished when a child is clearly being taken advantage of by an adult. You would never had been so hinged on revenge if he had not wronged you to begin with.

Is that why you want to give me a second chance? To...see what I do, when pursuing that revenge isn't an option?

[Yusuke shakes his head, looking back at Akechi.]

The Phantom Thieves have a role to protect all those who were wronged by terrible adults, when no one else will take a stand for them. Wishing for you to be safe and well for its own sake... that's truly all there is to it.

[Whatever Akechi does with that second chance is up to him.]

I still don't get your mindset, after all the cause I've given you to resent me. But, I can at least understand wanting to mitigate or undo some of the damage caused by people like Shido and his accomplices.

You don't have to understand it fully. We Phantom Thieves make decisions based on our own justice, not because we expect the understanding of others.

[Though maybe in this case, Akechi will understand eventually, if he opts to spend more time with any of them.]

...It's strange, isn't it? How we can be so alike, and yet so different. I wonder if that's because you Thieves had each other, or because I spent so long under the control of truly despicable adults.

Perhaps so. It's no exaggeration to say that they saved my life -- I do not wish to think what would have become of me if they had not intervened. Had they met you earlier, too, things might have been different.

Heh...

[He gives a weak smile.]

I actually told Amamiya-kun once that I wished we'd met sooner for that very reason. If I hadn't felt as though there was nobody in the world I could trust...well, there's no point in thinking about 'what if's now. I can't change the past, after all...the most I can do is try to change my fate.

Yes. How you choose to do that is down to you, but there will be people willing to support you, should you choose to accept them.

Now, should we return to the matter at hand...?

[Akechi's eyes show no signs of change back to normal yet, as far as he can tell, and it's starting to become more worrying.]

Right...we need to find someone who might know something about these fruits. Maybe we should go down to the commercial level, we might have some luck at a garden store.

Or perhaps we could find a food store? I must admit, I'm beginning to hunger.

[A pause, and belatedly, he adds:] Ah! And we can ask if any are familiar with the fruit you ingested.

How are your...ah...finances? I haven't found a job yet, so I don't have any Demichroma to my name.

[And he's pretty sure it goes without saying that his Chroma trend has been a downward slope.]

Oh... Rather lacking, to be honest.

[He did get the stipend on arrival, but he's spent most of it already, in typical Yusuke fashion.]

So, neither of us is in particularly good shape to be going shopping.

[Even though he's...still pretty hungry, himself.]
